1: Are engagement photos necessary?
By Julia Sharapova Photography; Dallas engagement & wedding photographer.
Engagement sessions are a great way to get comfortable with your photographer. To get to know each other and have fun together. Your photographer will teach you how to interact with each other in-front of the camera, so on the day of the wedding when there is not much time for pictures you know what to do and feel a lot more confident!
Julia Sharapova Photography offers engagement and wedding photography packages. She advises the best time of year to schedule your engagement session is the spring or fall, but it all depends on your wedding date and when you book your appointment with your engagement and wedding photographer.

2: Are engagement photos awkward?
By Sabel Moments; Fort Worth engagement & wedding photographer
Engagement sessions are so fun, they let the couples and photographers get to know each other. We can get all those awkward moments with the camera out of the way and there is an ease to the wedding day.
It lets y’all know how we work behind the camera and it lets us photographers know how y’all work in front of it, is there a pose that doesn’t quite work? Is there one y’all rock at? Engagement sessions are a great time to get to know each other and how we all work together!
Sabel Moments offers engagement and wedding photography packages. She encourages couples during an engagement session to have at least 2 outfits. Mainly because after walking and such guys tend to sweat a little and that outfit change is a fresh set of clothes for him!

By Michelle Lippert Photography; Michigan engagement & wedding photographer.
Your engagement session is the ultimate ice breaker! By the time your engagement session comes around, you’ve probably talked to your photographer a few times, but this time together is truly priceless. I’ll get to know how you take direction and you get a feel for what it’ll be like on the wedding day! Now that 45 minutes you have scheduled in your timeline for portraits that become 15 minutes, isn’t the end of the world! You’ll be pros!

4: What are engagement photos used for?
By Monika Normand Photography; Dallas engagement & wedding photographer.
Engagement sessions are the best! I love them because they help my couples feel more comfortable and confident in front of the camera and also help me build a relationship with them prior to their wedding day.
We work through a variety of poses and prompts during the engagement session so that you’ll feel more like an expert at having your picture taken when the big day rolls around. You’ll also be able to capture beautiful photos for your save the dates and to display during your wedding reception.
Not only do engagement sessions help you and your partner get comfortable being in front of the camera and working with your photographer, but they also are a great way to capture photos for your save the dates and to display at your wedding reception.
I especially enjoy them because they help me get to know my couples better before their wedding day and give me a good understanding of their relationship and what poses and prompts work best to create the best photos.
Monika Normand Photography offers engagement and wedding photography packages. She advises to schedule your engagement shoot anywhere from 6-12 months in advance of your wedding date and schedule your engagement session for early morning or late afternoon/early evening for best lighting.

5: Why should you take engagement photos?
By Kelsey LaNae Photography; DFW engagement & wedding photographer.
Usually the couple has never had professional photos taken of them together so it allows the couple to get comfortable in front of a camera and with me as their photographer before their big wedding day (when lots of emotions and nerves can be present).
So if they’ve done an engagement session before to learn how I communicate posing and my flow of taking photos, they’re going to be more calm and know what to expect – which can only lead to better images of them on their wedding day.
Kelsey LaNae Photography offers engagement and wedding photography packages. She advises if you want to use your engagement photos for save the dates, schedule your engagement session 7-8 months out from your wedding date.

6: Why should you have an engagement photo session?
By Photography By Kegan; Destination engagement & wedding photographer
Engagement sessions are relaxed and playful and the couple gets a chance to have their photos taken without the pressure of a timeline and expectations. It provides couples with the perfect opportunity to get to know their photographer in a fun, stress-free environment and get comfortable with being in front of a lens.
My couples get the opportunity to share with me any concerns or preferences they have when it comes to their photos being taken; and most importantly we form a friendship which is very important since I will be with them, for the entirety of their wedding day. Building this trust ahead of time allows them to relax on their big day and know that I have them covered.
An engagement session is also a great time for a wedding photographer to go over important wedding day information with the couple in order to capture their special day most efficiently. I get to learn what is most important to my couples when it comes to the documentation of their wedding; Do they want getting ready shots? A first look? Couple photos at sunset? Family photos before the ceremony or after? Etc.

7: How does an engagement photo session help your wedding day pictures?
By Gaby Pineda Photography; DFW engagement & wedding photographer.
The engagement session is SO important because in this session you will get to know the personality of your photographer and you will know how she or he will direct you on the poses. I like to call it the photo rehearsal!
This is the day that your photographer can share some tips with you and/or they will show you certain ways to position yourself for photos during that session. That way the day of your wedding you will feel more comfortable and natural while taking your wedding photos.
Gaby Pineda Photography offers engagement and wedding photography packages. She advises that the best time to take engagement photos is usually 2 hours before sunset and the engagement session can last for 60-90minutes.
