Engagement sessions are the best! I love them because they help my couples feel more comfortable and confident in front of the camera and also help me build a relationship with them prior to their wedding day.
We work through a variety of poses and prompts during the engagement session so that you’ll feel more like an expert at having your picture taken when the big day rolls around. You’ll also be able to capture beautiful photos for your save the dates and to display during your wedding reception.
Not only do engagement sessions help you and your partner get comfortable being in front of the camera and working with your photographer, but they also are a great way to capture photos for your save the dates and to display at your wedding reception.
I especially enjoy them because they help me get to know my couples better before their wedding day and give me a good understanding of their relationship and what poses and prompts work best to create the best photos.

5: Why should you take engagement photos?

Usually the couple has never had professional photos taken of them together so it allows the couple to get comfortable in front of a camera and with me as their photographer before their big wedding day (when lots of emotions and nerves can be present).
So if they’ve done an engagement session before to learn how I communicate posing and my flow of taking photos, they’re going to be more calm and know what to expect – which can only lead to better images of them on their wedding day.

6: Why should you have an engagement photo session?

Engagement sessions are relaxed and playful and the couple gets a chance to have their photos taken without the pressure of a timeline and expectations. It provides couples with the perfect opportunity to get to know their photographer in a fun, stress-free environment and get comfortable with being in front of a lens.
My couples get the opportunity to share with me any concerns or preferences they have when it comes to their photos being taken; and most importantly we form a friendship which is very important since I will be with them, for the entirety of their wedding day. Building this trust ahead of time allows them to relax on their big day and know that I have them covered.
An engagement session is also a great time for a wedding photographer to go over important wedding day information with the couple in order to capture their special day most efficiently. I get to learn what is most important to my couples when it comes to the documentation of their wedding; Do they want getting ready shots? A first look? Couple photos at sunset? Family photos before the ceremony or after? Etc.

7: How does an engagement photo session help your wedding day pictures?

The engagement session is SO important because in this session you will get to know the personality of your photographer and you will know how she or he will direct you on the poses. I like to call it the photo rehearsal!
This is the day that your photographer can share some tips with you and/or they will show you certain ways to position yourself for photos during that session. That way the day of your wedding you will feel more comfortable and natural while taking your wedding photos.
